Progeny Speaks Out: Kansas' Youth Justice System Set Up for Failure
Progeny, one of our Debt Free Justice partners in the criminal justice reform movement, has been making waves in the news lately. In this Kansas Reflector article, activists are calling for reforms in Kansas' juvenile justice system. Progeny is campaigning to close the state's remaining youth prison and increase community programs and treatments. Senate Bill 367 reduced youth incarceration and arrest rates, but young offenders are not receiving sufficient treatment. Lawmakers have introduced three juvenile justice bills, but action has been limited, and community organizers are calling for more community-based solutions and the elimination of youth fines and fees.
