Riverside County Settles Lawsuit, Ending Unjust Juvenile Fees

Patricia Segura, along with 1,200 other Riverside County residents, is eligible for reimbursement as part of a settlement in the Freeman v. County of Riverside class action lawsuit. The county had charged millions of dollars in unjust fees to families with children in juvenile detention, violating state and federal laws. The settlement requires the county to pay $540,307 in reimbursements and cease collecting $4.1 million in outstanding fees. This victory provides relief to families caught in cycles of financial turmoil and highlights the need to address unaffordable criminal and juvenile debts. Patricia Segura hopes others will benefit from the settlement and reclaim their money. Families who believe they are eligible can visit the Settlement Administrator's website or contact them at 833.472.1997 for assistance.
