In 2023, Michigan introduced HB 4634-4637, which eliminates most fees and costs associated with juvenile legal system involvement. In 2021, the Macomb County (North Detroit) Circuit Court eliminated youth fees for detention, housing in residential facilities, court-appointed attorney costs, and probation, and discharged $84 million in previously assessed fees.
