Advisory for Recipients of Financial Assistance from the DOJ on Levying Fines and Fees on Juveniles

January 2017
By the Office for Access to Justice in the Justice Department and the Office for Civil Rights at the Office of Justice Programs

This advisory released by the Department of Justice under former President Barack Obama recommended that jurisdictions consider whether the charging and collection of fees and fines to youth comports with the rehabilitative goals of the juvenile justice system. (NB: The advisory was revoked by Attorney General Jeff Sessions in December 2017.)
