In 2023, Washington passed HB 1169, which abolished fees and fines in juvenile court, made outstanding juvenile court debt uncollectible, and eliminated two mandatory fees in adult court. In 2022, Washington passed HB 2050 / SB 5535, repealing state and local "parent pay" statutes, which required parents to pay for the cost of their child's support, treatment, and confinement.
