In 2024, Virginia introduced SB 1481/HB 1264 to eliminate fees and fines for youth in the juvenile and adult systems. In 2021, Virginia passed HB 1912, which repealed "child support" fees for youth in the temporary custody of or committed to the state Department of Juvenile Justice, accounting for an estimated $435,000 collected annually.
